A few days into my month in Finland, we visited Porvoo, a small town a short drive from Helsinki. One of six medieval towns in Finland, Porvoo was founded in the mid to late 1300’s. We spent the warm, sunny day wandering through the cobbled streets lined with adorable little wood paneled homes and shops. We also walked along the Porvoonjoki River (which flows through the town) to see the foundations of the medieval Swedish earth fortress that gives the town it’s name.
The town had a beautiful medieval church, but a wedding was underway, so I couldn’t take a look inside.
