My life of traveling started on August 5, 2013 I moved to Reykjavik, Iceland to get a Master’s degree in Viking and Medieval Norse studies. I started this blog (then called An American in Iceland) to share my Icelandic adventures and new found analog photography habit.  But after a year and a half, I started going other places, too. I spent four months in Denmark, a month in Finland, dashed through Estonia and Latvia, took a week off in Austria, day-tripped Sweden celebrated Christmas my partner/now-husband’s Finnish family in Toronto, and snuck in a pair of visits to Scotland in between all that to visit my partner. I finished my MA in Reykjavík in May 2015 and came home to Maryland soon after. Then, I moved on my own to Nashville for two years to work for a historical association. I loved working for this organization and exploring middle American, but I was ready to go back to Europe, and in fall 2017, I headed back to Iceland on a Fulbright grant to study Icelandic as a second language and research Icelandic museums (but not before eloping in a park in Nashville). Back in Reykjavík, I started an ongoing podcast project to explore the world through museums, Museums in Strange Places. In May 2018, I moved to Warsaw, Poland to finally live with my husband after four years of long-distance relationship. I’m focusing now on my podcast and other projects related to museums and travel.   2. How lucky are you? Iceland is my favourite place ever, I went for a few weeks in 2010. I’d love to move there to study someday. I will be following and look forward to reading your adventures in Reykjavik! I hope to go back again in spring 2014. so hopefully I will have some more of my own stories to share 🙂

I have a strong ‘pull’ to Iceland, although I’ve never been – I know that one day I’ll get there – it’s just a little ‘up north’ from here anyway!   12. I’m so jealous! I was only in Iceland for a few days, but I love it and I can’t wait to go back. I met a Dutch girl in Reykjavik who was flying to the north of the Iceland to volunteer on a dairy farm, and I was so tempted to go with her 🙂

    I am SO glad to just discovered your blog by researching in Google. I am from China and I am currently studying in Heilongjiang University in China(freshman student :P). However, I have applied for the University of Iceland to pursue my dream on learning Icelandic and International Studies in Education,BA. I am really hoping that I can accepted by this wonderful university and this amazing country! BTW, I am also a huge fan of Pascal Pinon and Samaris!<3 Icelandic music is really awesome, isn't it? Virkilega frábær tónlist!

    I hope I will be blessed like you and go to study in the University of Iceland soon! Maybe we can explore Reykjavik together in the future?

      • You have some friends who already have been in that program? Awesome! My plan is study Icelandic one year and then transfer into International Studies in Education(3 year). Going to study in Iceland is really awesome because it can combine the studies of Icelandicand international education for me.

        Definitely I will hit you up if I go to the University of Iceland.xD BTW, how long will you study in Reykjavik?

    • Thanks. Well, I hadn’t been doing any film stuff before I got here. I brought my mom’s film camera along with the intent to start at some point. Then in like September or October, some random Icelandic photographer asked on the street to take my pictures and was using film, so I just asked her where she went. But I think there are a handful of places around the city.

    • Thanks! I lived there for one year, spent a semester in Denmark, then went back for another semester. I just moved back to the States, but I’ve already got my ticket to go back to Reykjavik in August for a conference. Can’t stay away for long!
